The Same Argument. Again.

You know the script by now. One of you pushes, the other pulls away. Or maybe you both shut down, and days pass in cold silence. Either way, you end up in the same place, disconnected, misunderstood, alone together.

You're not fighting about dishes or schedules. You're fighting because somewhere along the way, you stopped feeling safe with each other. That's what marriage therapy helps you rebuild.

Why Emotionally Focused Therapy Works

EFT isn't communication tips you'll forget in a week. Backed by over 30 years of research, it addresses the root of why couples get stuck: attachment needs.

Break the Negative Cycle

Identify the pattern that keeps you stuck and learn to step out of it together.

Express Needs Without Fighting

Learn to share what you really need in a way your partner can actually hear.

Rebuild Trust

Create new experiences of emotional safety and responsiveness.

Feel Like Partners Again

Move from adversaries to teammates who have each other's backs.

What to Expect

Assessment (1-2 sessions)

We'll understand your relationship history, current challenges, and what you're each hoping for.

Identify the Cycle (2-4 sessions)

Together, we'll map out the negative pattern you're stuck in and understand what's driving it.

Restructuring (8-12 sessions)

The heart of the work, creating new ways of connecting and responding to each other.

Consolidation (2-4 sessions)

Strengthen what you've built and plan for maintaining your new connection.

What Marriage Counselling Helps With

Whatever you call it, marriage therapy, couple counselling, couples counselling, or the American spelling with one L, our approach stays the same: Emotionally Focused Therapy, one of the most researched methods for helping couples reconnect. If you're preparing for marriage rather than already in one, our premarital counselling page may be the better starting point. And if the strain traces back to a bigger change, a move, a new baby, a career shift, our life transitions support pairs well with couples work.

Couples come to us from across Burlington, Aldershot, and the surrounding area for in-person sessions, and from anywhere in Ontario for virtual ones. Details on the office, fees, and who you might meet are further down this page.

Married, Engaged, or Just Together, We Work With You

Not everyone who reaches out is married. Some are looking for a couple therapist to work through a rough patch long before a wedding is on the table. Others have been together for years and want a relationship therapist who understands the weight of shared history, not just fresh conflict.

Our approach doesn't change based on the label on your relationship. The same Emotionally Focused Therapy that helps married couples rebuild trust works just as well for any two people ready to do the work together.

Marriage Counselling Burlington: In Person and Online

Many couples prefer to sit in the same room for this work, and our office at Suite 700, 1122 International Blvd in Burlington is set up for it: a quiet suite away from the downtown core, free parking, and wheelchair access. In-person appointments run on weekdays and some evenings.

If travel or childcare makes that hard, every couples therapist in Burlington on our team also offers secure video sessions across Ontario. Some couples alternate, meeting in person for the harder conversations and online in between. Fees for both formats are listed below, and more about the office is on our Burlington location page.
